The South West Herts. Labour Party is proud to announce that as a local party we have chosen to nominate Rebecca Long-Bailey for Leader and Angela Rayner for Deputy Leader.
We met for the Annual General Meeting of our Constituency Labour Party (CLP) on 24th January 2020. The first part of the meeting was devoted to the Leadership Election and the selection of our CLP nominations for leader and Deputy Leader. In addition we also voted to nominate two candidates for election to the National Executive Committee (NEC).
The meeting was very well attended with people excited to cast their votes for their favourite candidates. Each candidate’s representatives were given two minute to make their case and win people over. Once people had heard about every candidate we moved to the voting, where the candidates were ranked in order of preference.
As the votes were counted it became clear that Rebecca Long-Bailey had comfortably won the leadership vote. The Deputy vote was much closer but was just edged by Angela Rayner.
The NEC nominations were more straightforward, having met her in person, when she came to talk to us Lauren Townsend was a very popular choice with Jo Bird joining her after being nominated from the floor.
Later on the CLP Officers listed on this website were elected to their roles, Including a unanimous vote to re-elect our Chair. The evening culminated in a well attended social event to mark all the hard work and commitment of local members over the past year. A fitting occasion to mark the start of a new year of campaigning!
