Patrick Emery (Dacorum council candidate for Berkhamsted West)
“Labour is making an effort to field candidates in all wards within Dacorum for the local elections this May, which has meant that a lot of people, like me, are standing for the first time.
To help these new candidates out, out our agent, David Lang, held a workshop to run through the forms we have to submit in order to stand. These have to be filled out and submitted within a four week period, and are checked thoroughly before being accepted, which can be daunting. David ran through the forms very patiently, and by the end I felt a lot happier about the whole thing. The main job was that we need ten signatures of people registered to vote in the ward we are standing. This means finding ten people who are willing to support you, and then checking they are registered to vote where they live (it is surprising how often that proves not to be the case!).
A combination of friends, family and willing Labour members helped me reach the required number, and I was able to submit the forms in good time. So please look out for me on the ballot paper if you are voting in Berkhamsted West in May.”
