All political candidates have to have an Agent who is responsible for making sure things like candidate eligability, their nominations, campaign messages (eg leaflets) and all costs are legal and within the Electoral Commission’s guidelines. I am Labour’s Agent for the Dacorum borough council elections on May 2nd.
Having voted Labour all my life, from learning about inequality and the growth of the Labour movement in Social and Economic history at school, I saw the Cameron’s governments repeating the dark Thatcher years and resolved to get more active.
After being involved in campaigning for our local Labour Party for a few years now, I volunteered to take on the role of Membership Secretary and more recently Election Agent. Apart from the inevitable grey hairs, it has really been a rewarding experience. I get to meet a lot of people and have enjoyed hearing about history of the local party from our long-time members.
As the Agent you are really at the centre of things and get a tremendous sense of contributing to the cause.
