Have you or any member of your family used or accessed the Chesham Road Playing Fields – specifically the northern boundary from Upper Ashlyns Road to Chesham Road?
To update you – A former student of Ashlyns School and her parents initiated a campaign – you may well have been asked to sign it. They have also submitted an Application to Hertfordshire Country Council and in order to persuade the County Council to grant the right of way but, they need more evidence from residents, going back as far as you can remember. I have copied their original email below. They need the evidence urgently. PLEASE respond if you have any supporting evidence.
Email from Smilja Veris below:
As you may know on 1 September 2017, The Berkhamsted School decided with hardly any notice to destroy a stile and close access leading onto the Chesham Road Playing Fields (located opposite Ashlyns School) which had been In use for decades. This stile provided school children with a safe, speedy shortcut to school and also provided local residents with a vital link to town, the cemetery, bus stops, the nursery, care home and routes for walkers.
We submitted a hefty amount of user evidence initially to Herts County Council and now to DEFRA (to appeal HCC’s decision NOT to grant a permanent right of way). However we are still looking for evidence and support. Any additional statements we have will add weight to our appeal and be very much appreciated. If anyone used or knows of anyone who used this route we would be grateful if you could please complete and return the two forms. The application route is from the stile at Upper Ashlyns Rd along the northern boundary of the field and out of the gate onto Chesham Road. If you have used the route from the stile to the public footpath (points 1 to 2) or from the public footpath to the Chesham field gate (points 2 to 3) in different years or a different frequency of use, can I please ask you to complete two separate forms and maps for each route otherwise one form and map per user is fine.
If at all possible, scan completed forms sent to helenandrew99gmail.com. Links to the forms are below.
In our formal appeal I will be accompanying my daughter Elena, the school girl who started the initial petition appealing to Berkhamsted School’s sense of community.
