South West Hertfordshire Labour Covering SW Herts (Kings Langley, Abbots Langley, Rickmansworth and Chorleywood)
Over the past few days I’ve been trying to speak to as many people as I can in Watford to see if it it’s just me who thinks the Government’s new economic policy is madness or whether others think it makes sense. I’ve not spoken to a single person who does think it makes sense and this includes young and old and those of different political persuasions. People understand only too well that only bankers and those earning more than £150,000 will benefit from these measures and that this new mantra of cutting taxes for the rich doesn’t help the great majority of us. One lady I spoke to told me: “I feel like I’ve been left alone to deal with inflation and rising costs and I’m really worried.” This just about sums it up for me!
Even the International Monetary Fund doesn’t think it makes sense and according to the BBC has “issued an unflinching criticism of the UK’s latest fiscal plan”. So I await with interest for our own local MPs in Watford, Hemel and South West Herts to enlighten us as to how these plans will benefit those of us who earn less than £150,000. Perhaps you should offer them space in the next edition of the Observer?
