We have 2 book clubs in the Berkhamsted and Tring branch, both of which would be happy to welcome new members.

One which meets on the 2nd Wednesday of each month:

“We have an exciting book club that we set up during the lock down period for members of the local Labour Party. This lovely group has kept us linked as a community of friends and to discussions on social and political issues via good quality novels, stories, essays and more. Our aim is to keep learning about the most important issues and realities of our time, opening informal discussions on the issues raised in the books that we have agreed to read, keeping a socialist spirit and critical view on current or historical affairs that affect our time. And of course have a good time when we meet!

We have now agreed to meet in the Rising Sun pub in Berkhamsted every 2nd Wednesday of each month, starting 11th January 2023. We will be discussing Radical Help by Hilary Cottam.”

Another which meets on the 3rd Wednesday of the month:

“The group was formed more than ten years ago by party members in Hemel Hempstead and now comprises people from both the Hemel and South West Herts constituencies. We meet monthly on the third Wednesday in the month and have just resumed face to face meetings following Covid. Each year we choose twelve books based on suggestions by members and alternate fiction and non-fiction. Our choice of books is wide ranging and covers a range of themes. Each December we try to go for a lighter book and meet for a Christmas meal, each member bringing along a dish. The size of the group runs between half a dozen and ten members at each meeting and the membership has remained pretty constant over the years but we are always happy to welcome new faces.”
